Blurb

Andrew Beckwith has already devoted his life to one girl—and as far as he’s concerned, she’s all he needs. The rough-around-the-edges bad boy left his reckless ways behind six years ago when his daughter Bell was born. To the female population’s dismay, he’s unapologetically single. When Bell’s mother walked out on them years ago, he vowed never to let another woman close enough to hurt them again.Amelia Van Ecken isn’t just another woman. She’s an independent, smart, and savvy businesswoman who doesn’t have time for sex, much less love. In the midst of a drawn-out, bitter divorce, all she wants is to bury herself in work. But when sharp-tongued Amelia and stubborn Andrew cross paths, sparks fly—and burn. Two things are obvious in an instant: they want each other, and they’re from different worlds. It’s the perfect formula for an off-the-charts one-night stand. After all, it’s not as if opposites ever attract.

Review
5 stars

If it were possible I’d give this book six stars. This is going in my top 5 of 2016. It’s been a while since I’ve read a book where every single character was likable.

Amelia- a new age woman who has balls of steel but realizes just because a woman can doesn’t mean she has to.

Andrew- a man’s man who doesn’t let gender stereotypes define him

Bell- a balls to the wall kid who rolls with the punches (I mean seriously…child goals)

If there’s one thing Jessica Hawkins knows how to do it’s angst. She has this ability to create characters who are so perfectly flawed that you find yourself falling in love with all of their broken pieces and seeing their cracks as a unique way to see the light within.

Amelia…With a marriage that fell apart, Amelia, has sworn off men. Her only concern is putting her hard work into avec…and getting even with Reggie. A company may not keep her warm at night, but a company also doesn’t have the ability to cheat on you with its coworkers wife. She doesn’t have time for a relationship, but when Andrew offers her the sweetest deal she’s heard in a long time why not indulge a little.

Andrew…Devoting his heart to his daughter is the only thing that matters. There isn’t room for anyone else- Bell comes first. Always has, always will. But when a one night stand has him questioning his priorities and wanting to make space for someone else to revere as high of a spot as Bell, Andrew doesn’t know how this makes him feel.

An absolute must read!!

“What’re your plans tonight?”She scoffs. “It’s Friday night. What aren’t my plans? I have drinks with friends in an hour, then a late dinner, and who knows after that.”

“Cancel them.”

She gapes at me. “Cancel my plans? Why would I?”

“Come out with me. Sadie says there’s a place around here with great pizza.”

She laughs, tilting her head and exposing the smooth column of her throat. “First, I don’t eat carbs, so there’s no way you’re getting me to do anything with the promise of pizza. Second, I just told you—I don’t date.”

“And neither do I.”

“Then why are you asking me out?” she asks.

“Because despite what you may think, I am a gentleman, and it’s only good manners to buy you dinner first.”

“First?” she asks, wrinkling her nose. “What’s second?”

We stare at each other. I let her figure it out on her own. It’s rare to meet a woman like me, someone who truly has no interest in finding a partner. I’ve heard that claim from enough girls to know when they’re bullshitting me, and unless Amelia is a Grade-A con artist, she definitely isn’t looking to get serious.

When she understands, the wrinkles on her forehead ease, and she parts her lips. I answer with a knowing smile. Suggesting sex within half an hour of meeting someone might normally get me slapped, but I get the feeling Amelia appreciates a more direct approach.

“I don’t date,” I say, “but I’m still a man with eyes.”

She makes no secret of looking me up and down. “You’re not my type either,” she warns. “I like men who carry a briefcase and see a barber regularly.”

I run my hand through my black hair, which I know is too long. “How’s that working out for you?”

She narrows her eyes. “Fine. Perfect.”

“I have some tattoos too,” I say. “And ride a motorcycle. Since that’s normally how I get most girls, I suppose those are turn-offs for you.”

“They are,” she says immediately, straightening her shoulders. “I’ve never understood the appeal of a bad boy.”

“Then tonight, we’re a match made in heaven, aren’t we? It shouldn’t be hard for either of us to say goodbye afterward.”

She bats her eyelashes a few times, not because she’s flirting but because she’s thinking. Considering. Which means it’s basically a done deal. I’ve never gotten this far with a girl only to have her walk away. “Why even bother with dinner?” she asks.

I take a moment to study her, her shoulder-length, perfectly coifed blonde hair. Her defined red lips that look like a heart when pursed, which is often. Yeah, based on the fact that I’m noticing details—something I try not to do anymore—I know I’m feeling her tonight. Most guys would jump at the opportunity to skip the small talk, but that doesn’t really appeal to me. I like women, always have. Just because Shana fucked me in the head doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate them. Doesn’t mean I don’t want to spend time around them—just so long’s it’s surface stuff.

I don’t want to scare her off by suggesting I might want to have a conversation with her, so I just shrug. “Because I’m starving.”

“I’m not hungry.”

“Indulge me then. I need my energy.”

“For what?” she asks.

I arch an eyebrow at her. I’ll definitely need my energy for a night with her.

She reads my expression and her cheeks redden. “Oh.”

The plane begins its ascent, the engines roaring to life. Fenton whips out a file from his briefcase and gives it a once-over. Again, I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do and it’s killing me.I pull my Kindle out of my bag and try to become invested in a second-chance romance about a rock star, but it’s nearly impossible sitting next to him. Each time I become engrossed in the words, he moves and my senses are assaulted by his proximity. The third time this happens, I search the ebook for ‘cock’ and start reading a sex scene. I need some form of undoing and if that has to be done via fictional character, so be it.

The heroine is taking the hero into her mouth when a low rumble radiates beside me. Startled, I look up and see Fenton smirking.

“What?” I push the power button on my e-reader and place it on my lap. I realize the jet has leveled off and it’s quiet in the cabin. “What are you looking at me like that for?”

“Just wondering what you’re reading.”

“Why?”

“Because,” he says, his eyes darkening, “your entire posture changed. Your lips parted, your breathing became labored. I’m intrigued.”

“I don’t think you’d be interested in this.”

“Trust me—if it gets that kind of reaction out of you, I’m definitely interested.”

Dragging in a lungful of air, I remember Presley’s pep talk and decide I have nothing to lose.

I switch on the tablet and find the page. “She drew his cock into her mouth, stroking his shaft as she licked a pool of semen from the tip.” I glance over my shoulder and his eyes are wide. I wink. “A growl escaped his throat as she stroked his velvety length, running her tongue—”

“Enough.” He snatches the Kindle from my grasp and places it on his briefcase. “Fucking hell, Brynne. Do you want fucked right here?”

Review (1)
Wherever It Leads is one of my favorite books so far this year. This book just grabs your attention from the very first sentence. We quickly see that Fenton is not a man to mess with, and he seems used to getting what he wants. And after finding a lost cell phone, he wants Brynne.

Brynne has not had an easy year. After being cheated on by her boyfriend, her brother goes missing, and it just seems like nothing is going right for her. Then she loses her cell phone, and she feels like the universe is out to get her. That is until she meets up with Fenton to retrieve her lost phone.

Fenton was already attracted to Brynne from the pictures that he saw on her phone, but was not prepared for the reaction he would have to seeing her in person. Brynne was literally speechless when she saw Fenton. He was undeniably gorgeous and intense, and she was instantly drawn to him.

The day after meeting, while they’re on their first date, Fenton makes Brynne an offer that she knows she should refuse, but her heart and her head are in conflict over the decision. Her BFF, Presley, helps convince Brynne that taking Fenton up on his offer would be good for her, and it would only be a rebound anyway. Brynne agrees, but after being with Fenton after only a short time, she knows that her heart is at risk of being broken once again.

Fenton doesn’t believe in love. He planned to spend time with Brynne and get to know her, but he hadn’t planned on the emotional pull that he would have towards her. The closer they get, the more torn Fenton becomes. He knows that there is a secret that he has to let Brynne in on, but knows that he will lose her once she finds out. Once everything is out in the open, will Brynne be able to forgive Fenton? And what will he lose to ensure that Brynne gets what she wants most?

Wherever It Leads was simply amazing. The characters were incredible, and the storyline keeps you drawn in from beginning to end. Highly recommend.  5 well-deserved stars.

She pulls out of her parking space, and my heart constricts as I watch her drive away from me again. I should duck down so she doesn’t see me, but my eyes won’t veer from her. The beat-up Jetta passes and my stomach clenches. My hand itches to yank the car handle open. My feet beg to disobey and run to her. I don’t have to, because she slams on the breaks and her eyes are locked on mine. Hope pours from mine while hers fume with anger.

She throws the car into park, thrusts the door open, and stomps directly to my door.

She bangs on the window and I jump. “Why are you here?” she screams through the pane.

As I lower the window, the smell of jasmine breezes in. Her perfume still has the capacity to calm me.

“Hey, Taylor.”

“Don’t ‘Hey’ me. Why are you here?” Her voice is sharp and cold, and nothing like I remember. Not sure why I wouldn’t expect less though.

“I thought we could talk.” My fingers move to the knob of my stereo to turn down the music.

“There’s nothing to talk about. Leave.”

She turns and walks back to her car.

I exit my truck and wrap my fingers around her wrist to stop her. She yanks it out of my grip.
“Don’t ever touch me,” she seethes, and I hold my hands up in the air.

“Taylor,” I whisper, and she twists around. The look of fury heavy in her eyes.

She ignores the fact that I’m talking and climbs back into her car. I try to slide through the sliver of the open door, but she squeezes me out and the door rattles shut.

I knock on the window, but she shifts the car into drive. Her hesitation as she sits and studies the steering wheel, tells me my cause isn’t lost. Maybe I have a chance. I knock again, softer this time. Her tear-filled eyes look up at me through the dirty glass, and my heart breaks for what I’ve done. If I affect her this much two years later, how bad did I destroy her then?

“Please,” I beg, and she closes her eyes. I watch her shallow breathing falter.

As though she had a lapse of judgment, she shakes her head and the pain in her eyes disappears, returning to resentment once more. “Go back to your fiancée, Brad.”

Her tires squeal before the rubber catches pavement. Within a minute, she’s left me—again.

“Fuck!” I lift my leg in the air as my toes ignite with heat. She fucking rolled over my foot.

The pain in my foot is nothing compared to the pain in my heart as I watch her taillights disappear around the corner.

His Light in the Dark by L.A. Fiore
Contemporary Romance
Released: February 9, 2016
synopsis
My first memory was of a slap, hard across the face: the sting on my cheek and the jarring of my bones as I slammed back into my bed. It was my dad who had hit me.

I had been four.
Most of my memories were much of the same and no one ever saw, no one ever fought to help, no one ever cared.
Then we moved.
My new neighbor cared, rescued the twelve-year-old I had been from a beating. Always thought I’d suffer the nightmare alone, I was wrong.
Mace Donati saved me that day in all the ways a person could be saved.
And his daughter, Mia, she became the friend I had always wanted, my conscience when my own faltered, the light that led me home when I had lost my way.
The girl who grew into the only woman I would ever love.
But when you realize you’re more like your father than the good people who took you in and gave you a home, the only way to return their kindness is to let them go.
I let them go, got so far lost in the shadows I couldn’t remember who I was anymore. Mia never gave up on me. She fought for me, kept the light on so I’d find my way back.
And when I did, life threw us a curveball. I had to hurt Mia in order to save her.
But when my past comes back to haunt me and I almost lose her, I’m ready to fight for her…fight to find a way back into her heart while keeping the demons from my past from finishing what they started.

Review
Kia’s Review:
This book is book 2 in a series so I would highly recommend reading book 1 before reading this one.
Now that that is out of the way…..Can’t Slow Down picks right up where Fast Lane left us hanging (yeah Ms. Stevens you left us hanging and you know it lol) and it reels you right in. Much like the first book this one was fast paced and I was able to read through it in one sitting (ok ok it was good and I couldn’t put it down). If you thought Lexi and Coen’s week has been crazy so far you HAVE to see what happens next. This book through me for a few loops and I loved every one of them ! If you are looking for a fast paced quick romance read you won’t be disappointed! And if you’re looking for a romance with a HAWT tattooed hunk you def have to grab this one! Great job!
