Andrew Beckwith has already devoted his life to one girl—and as far as he’s concerned, she’s all he needs. The rough-around-the-edges bad boy left his reckless ways behind six years ago when his daughter Bell was born. To the female population’s dismay, he’s unapologetically single. When Bell’s mother walked out on them years ago, he vowed never to let another woman close enough to hurt them again.Amelia Van Ecken isn’t just another woman. She’s an independent, smart, and savvy businesswoman who doesn’t have time for sex, much less love. In the midst of a drawn-out, bitter divorce, all she wants is to bury herself in work. But when sharp-tongued Amelia and stubborn Andrew cross paths, sparks fly—and burn. Two things are obvious in an instant: they want each other, and they’re from different worlds. It’s the perfect formula for an off-the-charts one-night stand. After all, it’s not as if opposites ever attract.

Review
5 stars

If it were possible I’d give this book six stars. This is going in my top 5 of 2016. It’s been a while since I’ve read a book where every single character was likable.

Amelia- a new age woman who has balls of steel but realizes just because a woman can doesn’t mean she has to.

Andrew- a man’s man who doesn’t let gender stereotypes define him

Bell- a balls to the wall kid who rolls with the punches (I mean seriously…child goals)

If there’s one thing Jessica Hawkins knows how to do it’s angst. She has this ability to create characters who are so perfectly flawed that you find yourself falling in love with all of their broken pieces and seeing their cracks as a unique way to see the light within.

Amelia…With a marriage that fell apart, Amelia, has sworn off men. Her only concern is putting her hard work into avec…and getting even with Reggie. A company may not keep her warm at night, but a company also doesn’t have the ability to cheat on you with its coworkers wife. She doesn’t have time for a relationship, but when Andrew offers her the sweetest deal she’s heard in a long time why not indulge a little.

Andrew…Devoting his heart to his daughter is the only thing that matters. There isn’t room for anyone else- Bell comes first. Always has, always will. But when a one night stand has him questioning his priorities and wanting to make space for someone else to revere as high of a spot as Bell, Andrew doesn’t know how this makes him feel.

An absolute must read!!

“What’re your plans tonight?”She scoffs. “It’s Friday night. What aren’t my plans? I have drinks with friends in an hour, then a late dinner, and who knows after that.”

“Cancel them.”

She gapes at me. “Cancel my plans? Why would I?”

“Come out with me. Sadie says there’s a place around here with great pizza.”

She laughs, tilting her head and exposing the smooth column of her throat. “First, I don’t eat carbs, so there’s no way you’re getting me to do anything with the promise of pizza. Second, I just told you—I don’t date.”

“And neither do I.”

“Then why are you asking me out?” she asks.

“Because despite what you may think, I am a gentleman, and it’s only good manners to buy you dinner first.”

“First?” she asks, wrinkling her nose. “What’s second?”

We stare at each other. I let her figure it out on her own. It’s rare to meet a woman like me, someone who truly has no interest in finding a partner. I’ve heard that claim from enough girls to know when they’re bullshitting me, and unless Amelia is a Grade-A con artist, she definitely isn’t looking to get serious.

When she understands, the wrinkles on her forehead ease, and she parts her lips. I answer with a knowing smile. Suggesting sex within half an hour of meeting someone might normally get me slapped, but I get the feeling Amelia appreciates a more direct approach.

“I don’t date,” I say, “but I’m still a man with eyes.”

She makes no secret of looking me up and down. “You’re not my type either,” she warns. “I like men who carry a briefcase and see a barber regularly.”

I run my hand through my black hair, which I know is too long. “How’s that working out for you?”

She narrows her eyes. “Fine. Perfect.”

“I have some tattoos too,” I say. “And ride a motorcycle. Since that’s normally how I get most girls, I suppose those are turn-offs for you.”

“They are,” she says immediately, straightening her shoulders. “I’ve never understood the appeal of a bad boy.”

“Then tonight, we’re a match made in heaven, aren’t we? It shouldn’t be hard for either of us to say goodbye afterward.”

She bats her eyelashes a few times, not because she’s flirting but because she’s thinking. Considering. Which means it’s basically a done deal. I’ve never gotten this far with a girl only to have her walk away. “Why even bother with dinner?” she asks.

I take a moment to study her, her shoulder-length, perfectly coifed blonde hair. Her defined red lips that look like a heart when pursed, which is often. Yeah, based on the fact that I’m noticing details—something I try not to do anymore—I know I’m feeling her tonight. Most guys would jump at the opportunity to skip the small talk, but that doesn’t really appeal to me. I like women, always have. Just because Shana fucked me in the head doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate them. Doesn’t mean I don’t want to spend time around them—just so long’s it’s surface stuff.

I don’t want to scare her off by suggesting I might want to have a conversation with her, so I just shrug. “Because I’m starving.”

“I’m not hungry.”

“Indulge me then. I need my energy.”

“For what?” she asks.

I arch an eyebrow at her. I’ll definitely need my energy for a night with her.

She reads my expression and her cheeks redden. “Oh.”

Love Emerged

Blurb:

Dylan
Bea Zanders’s interest penetrated me.
I tried to ignore her unwavering eyes and lasting touches.
But my willpower failed me.
Our one-night affair was mutual.
No expectations, no exchanging of phone numbers, nothing.
The next morning, she sauntered out of my life as fast as she had entered it.

Bea
I claimed Dylan McCain as soon as I saw him.
His disheveled dark hair and tattooed arms screamed bad boy.
Finally, I won, and he claimed me in return.
But in the light of day, he changed.
His smile further dented those dreamy dimples.
His panicked green eyes held layers of kindness.
Making sure the rules were clear, I walked away, showing him how little relationships meant to me.
Now, two months later, we come face-to-face again—as coworkers.

I’m a huge fan of Michelle Lynn, and loved the 1st 2 books in the Love Surfaced series, so I was really looking forward to Love Emerged. I was definitely not disappointed. Bea and Dylan’s story may just be my favorite in this series.

We all know that Bea is Piper’s best friend, but didn’t really know much about her life until now. While from the outside she seems to have it all together, we quickly learn that she wears her tough exterior as a shield to cover a lifetime of hurt from the people that should love her the most. Due to her past, she has a hard time letting people in for fear that they will see who she truly is. She wants to feel wanted, but vows to not let feelings and emotions become involved. This has worked for her for years, but then she meets Dylan.

Dylan is Tanner’s younger brother, and has been hurt in a relationship for being “too nice.” He has a hard time understanding why a woman wouldn’t want a guy who treats her like a princess. His heart is on the mend from this recent breakup, and he has promised himself that he won’t let another woman hurt him that way again. What he doesn’t anticipate is taking a new job in a new city and finds himself working with Bea, who he had a one-night stand with after his breakup.

Bea and Dylan seem like complete opposites, but share many similarities, the main one being their career goals. While working for the same advertising agency, they realize that the chemistry they felt months earlier has not diminished. They can’t help but to be drawn to each other, but they each feel that a relationship is not what either of them wants or needs. Dylan wants to stay focused on his career, and Bea feels that she is unlovable and can’t put herself out there to be rejected. But when Dylan overhears what could be a life changing situation for Bea, the nice guy side of him wins out, and he puts a plan in motion to help Bea out and get her what she needs at the time. This leads to a sequence of events that will have a major impact and change the both of them.

One of the things that I love the most about this book is that isn’t not all rainbows and sunshine. Dylan and Bea dealt with real-life problems, and they talked to work through them. They each knew that the other and what they had was worth fighting for, and that’s exactly what they did, even when the person that they had to fight the hardest was their own self.

Love Emerged shows us that you should never change for anyone. One day, someone will love you for you, and you’ll be exactly what they need. It also shows that the ones that fight love the hardest are the ones that need it the most.

I absolutely loved this book and cannot recommend it highly enough. 5 well-deserved stars.

The plane begins its ascent, the engines roaring to life. Fenton whips out a file from his briefcase and gives it a once-over. Again, I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do and it’s killing me.I pull my Kindle out of my bag and try to become invested in a second-chance romance about a rock star, but it’s nearly impossible sitting next to him. Each time I become engrossed in the words, he moves and my senses are assaulted by his proximity. The third time this happens, I search the ebook for ‘cock’ and start reading a sex scene. I need some form of undoing and if that has to be done via fictional character, so be it.

The heroine is taking the hero into her mouth when a low rumble radiates beside me. Startled, I look up and see Fenton smirking.

“What?” I push the power button on my e-reader and place it on my lap. I realize the jet has leveled off and it’s quiet in the cabin. “What are you looking at me like that for?”

“Just wondering what you’re reading.”

“Why?”

“Because,” he says, his eyes darkening, “your entire posture changed. Your lips parted, your breathing became labored. I’m intrigued.”

“I don’t think you’d be interested in this.”

“Trust me—if it gets that kind of reaction out of you, I’m definitely interested.”

Dragging in a lungful of air, I remember Presley’s pep talk and decide I have nothing to lose.

I switch on the tablet and find the page. “She drew his cock into her mouth, stroking his shaft as she licked a pool of semen from the tip.” I glance over my shoulder and his eyes are wide. I wink. “A growl escaped his throat as she stroked his velvety length, running her tongue—”

“Enough.” He snatches the Kindle from my grasp and places it on his briefcase. “Fucking hell, Brynne. Do you want fucked right here?”

Review (1)
Wherever It Leads is one of my favorite books so far this year. This book just grabs your attention from the very first sentence. We quickly see that Fenton is not a man to mess with, and he seems used to getting what he wants. And after finding a lost cell phone, he wants Brynne.

Brynne has not had an easy year. After being cheated on by her boyfriend, her brother goes missing, and it just seems like nothing is going right for her. Then she loses her cell phone, and she feels like the universe is out to get her. That is until she meets up with Fenton to retrieve her lost phone.

Fenton was already attracted to Brynne from the pictures that he saw on her phone, but was not prepared for the reaction he would have to seeing her in person. Brynne was literally speechless when she saw Fenton. He was undeniably gorgeous and intense, and she was instantly drawn to him.

The day after meeting, while they’re on their first date, Fenton makes Brynne an offer that she knows she should refuse, but her heart and her head are in conflict over the decision. Her BFF, Presley, helps convince Brynne that taking Fenton up on his offer would be good for her, and it would only be a rebound anyway. Brynne agrees, but after being with Fenton after only a short time, she knows that her heart is at risk of being broken once again.

Fenton doesn’t believe in love. He planned to spend time with Brynne and get to know her, but he hadn’t planned on the emotional pull that he would have towards her. The closer they get, the more torn Fenton becomes. He knows that there is a secret that he has to let Brynne in on, but knows that he will lose her once she finds out. Once everything is out in the open, will Brynne be able to forgive Fenton? And what will he lose to ensure that Brynne gets what she wants most?

Wherever It Leads was simply amazing. The characters were incredible, and the storyline keeps you drawn in from beginning to end. Highly recommend.  5 well-deserved stars.

I’m a cheater. There. I said it. Two years ago, I fell into a hole, and as fast as my fingers clawed to escape, the dirt continued to pile on me. I’m not saying it’s an excuse. I’m not even saying she should forgive me. Although, I hope she does. But I can’t live without her anymore. I tried. I found a girl and proposed to her, while imagining the delicate finger I slid the ring on belonged to someone else. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t go through with marrying anyone but her. For sure, I never thought I’d say this, but I’m nothing without her. She brings out the good in me. That’s why I’m here, in some small-ass town, to grovel my way back into her heart.

She’s different now, and I’m not referring to the disappearance of her bleached blonde hair back to her natural brown. I loved her as a blonde, but the dark suits her better. I wouldn’t care if she had rainbow-colored hair. I’m not sitting outside the hospital where she works, watching her walk to her car like some stalker, because she’s gorgeous. I’m here because of her heart and kindness. That’s what I’m fighting to get back. The package it comes in is just an added bonus.

Her ponytail swings back and forth as she laughs with what I hope is a co-worker, unless she’s turned lesbian in the last two years. She waves good-bye to the girl and throws her purse into the passenger seat of her Jetta. The car has a little more rust than it did back in the day, but it’s held up well. Still, it’s old and she deserves something newer.

She pulls out of her parking space, and my heart constricts as I watch her drive away from me again. I should duck down so she doesn’t see me, but my eyes won’t veer from her. The beat-up Jetta passes and my stomach clenches. My hand itches to yank the car handle open. My feet beg to disobey and run to her. I don’t have to, because she slams on the breaks and her eyes are locked on mine. Hope pours from mine while hers fume with anger.

Review
It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of Michelle Lynn. And while I’ve loved all of her books, she has truly outdone herself with Love Rekindled. I expected a second chance love story, but this book was just so much more.

When his life didn’t go as planned, Brad Ashby made a series of mistakes that set his life on a downward spiral, and brought those closest to him down in the process. Two years later, he’s getting his life back on track and is slowly gaining back the trust of those that he hurt. Only one person remains – Taylor Delaney. Brad knows that Taylor probably won’t, and shouldn’t, forgive him for what he did to her, but he knows he won’t be able to truly move forward with his life until he tries.

Taylor Delaney has not had an easy life, but nothing has ever hurt as much as what Brad did to her two years ago. She has moved on with her life, but has never been able to get over Brad. Even after everything he did to her, she still loves him. But when he shows back up in her life, she realizes that no matter how much she still loves him, her lack of trust in him overshadows everything else, including the chemistry between the two of them that never went away.

Brad will do whatever it takes to earn Taylor’s trust and win her back, but he knows that it won’t be easy. It seems that every time he tries to move forward, his past comes back to haunt him. With Taylor by his side, he has the support that he needs, but can he overcome his self-doubt and lack of faith in himself to move forward? And can Taylor learn to let go of the past to move forward with Brad? Can she trust him again?

Love Rekindled is so much more than a second chance love story. It is truly Brad’s second chance at life. It is a story of love, forgiveness, hope, of letting go of the past and moving forward. I cannot recommend this book highly enough. 5 well-deserved stars.

~*~*~ Review of Xavier Cold by Michelle Valentine ~*~*~

XC Cover

Synopsis in black

The conclusion to the New York Times bestselling romance that began in Phenomenal X, about one woman’s pulse-pounding relationship with a notorious bad-boy wrestler.

“What’ll it be, Anna Cortez? Are you in, or are you out?”
One momentary loss of control has now ruined everything Xavier Cold had going for himself. With his world unraveling fast, he’s willing to do anything to save not only his job but his relationship with the only woman he’s ever loved.

Anna Cortez, still reeling from shock, tries desperately to save the man that’s consumed her heart, body and soul. She’ll have to dig deep and find courage she never knew she possessed to help Xavier fight demons from his past—a past that’s even more haunted than she ever imagined.

Review (1)

***** Spoilers ahead if you have not read Phenomenal X *****

Xavier Cold is book 2 in the Hard Knocks series, and should be read after Phenomenal X, and it picks up right where Phenomenal X left off.

Xavier Cold begins with X in jail after the assault on Rex. And although Rex deserved every punch, X knows he messed up and is ready to face any punishment that is headed his way. He is surprised to get out so quickly, but when he sees who got him out, he knows that facing the consequences of his actions won’t be so easy. What is handed down to him forces him to face a past that he has spent so many years running from and trying to block from his mind, and in order to keep Anna by his side, he has no choice but to face it with her.

Anna knew that X had secrets and a past he didn’t want to talk about, but she didn’t know how strongly he was still affected by it until they arrive in Detroit and have to stay in the house that X grew up in. She soon realizes that not only does X have a dark past, but a dangerous one as well.

X’s past gave us insight into how he turned into the man that he is, and also let us see that wrestling saved him from going down a path that would have ended badly for him. Through a series of events, a long-kept secret is revealed, and it helps X to make peace with that part of his past.

Anna grows a lot in this book.  Although she loves X with everything that she has, she realizes that sometimes love may not be enough, and there are some things in their relationship that she can’t turn her back on and just let go.  She is strong-willed and determined, and holds her ground even when she wants nothing more than to follow her heart and run back to X and ignore what her head is telling her is right.

When X’s past threatens to ruin his future, he has some hard decisions to make. And to add to it, he and Anna are forced to spend time apart, which could be the beginning of the end for them. Will the distance cause X to realize that letting Anna go is the only way to protect her? Or will Anna provide him with new hope for the future that he can’t turn his back on?

Xavier Cold was the perfect conclusion to a great series. It  is a story of love, healing, and learning to hold on and fight fiercely for those you love. 4 stars.

~*~*~ Review of Dark Room by Heidi McLaughlin & LP Dover ~*~*~

Dark Room Cover

3e07a-synopsis2

The rules of Society X are simple . . . break them and you’re out.

Rule #1 – No names
It doesn’t matter if you want to know, it’s forbidden.

Rule #2 – No exchanging numbers
It doesn’t matter if you want to call, it’s forbidden.

Rule #3 – Everything is to remain strictly anonymous
It doesn’t matter if you want to tell, it’s forbidden.

The Dark Room is the only place you can live out your fantasies and no one will ever know it’s you.

For Parker, what started out as a business transaction has turned into an addiction.

For Mia, it’s been a chance to discover who she truly is.

What happens in the dark will have you begging for more . . .

9e52b-domesticated_myreviewtab

This book was so amazing, I honestly don’t even know where to begin. I didn’t know what to expect going in, and I can now say that I have personally never read anything else like this. I expected dark erotica, but was pleasantly surprised to find a much lighter, but deeper romance. I know that sounds a bit contradictory, but once you read Dark Room, you’ll understand exactly what I mean.

The main characters, Parker and Mia, are both incredible. Parker is super hot, funny, incredibly sweet. He runs his family’s multi-million dollar business, and takes pride in the fact that he runs it well at such a young age. His number one rule that he set for his employees and himself is that there are no interoffice relationships allowed. He is dedicated, driven, and loyal, even if at the risk of sacrificing his own happiness.

Mia has just come out of a bad relationship, in which her boyfriend was controlling and made her feel as though she wasn’t good enough, and made her have serious self-doubt. She is loyal and caring, and set aside her own dream to help her brother achieve his. She never seems to put herself first, but that all changes when she’s invited to a bachelorette party at Society X. When given an exclusive invitation, she lets her inhibitions go and accepts the offer. Everything that happens after can only be fate.

You may be asking what is the Dark Room? What does Parker have to do with it? How are he and Mia connected? So as to not spoil anything, I really can’t say much more. But trust me when I say this: read this book. You won’t be disappointed.

Review
Kia’s Review:
This book is book 2 in a series so I would highly recommend reading book 1 before reading this one.
Now that that is out of the way…..Can’t Slow Down picks right up where Fast Lane left us hanging (yeah Ms. Stevens you left us hanging and you know it lol) and it reels you right in. Much like the first book this one was fast paced and I was able to read through it in one sitting (ok ok it was good and I couldn’t put it down). If you thought Lexi and Coen’s week has been crazy so far you HAVE to see what happens next. This book through me for a few loops and I loved every one of them ! If you are looking for a fast paced quick romance read you won’t be disappointed! And if you’re looking for a romance with a HAWT tattooed hunk you def have to grab this one! Great job!
